Overview[]
It's Spenser's world, but Jesse Stone inhabits his own little corner of it, bringing a cast of supporting characters who don't appear elsewhere. There are also, of course, plenty of characters in common between the different book series. Most of Jesse's unique supporting characters are officers in his department or members of the Paradise community.
Main/Recurring Characters[]
- Jesse Stone. A former LA homicide detective, Jesse Stone moves to the affluent coastal town of Paradise Massachusetts to take the job of police chief. He has little choice but to take the position, as he resigns from the LAPD after nearly beating a suspect to death while drunk. The less than scrupulous town council of Paradise expect the disgraced and alcoholic Stone to be easily managed, but he proves to still have a sense of ethics and moral code similar to Spenser's, leading to frequent conflicts with his nominal bosses. Like Spenser, Stone is a former athlete, who was potentially headed for a career in major league baseball until an injury ended his career before it began. He is divorced, but takes many years to resolve his feelings towards his ex-wife. Spenser and Stone cross paths in several of each other's stories, and has a short term romantic relationship with Sunny Randall. He also interacts with many of the police and criminal elements that appear in the Spencer novels.
